In the UK, September marks a time of fresh starts – new shoes, crisp uniforms, and sharpened pencils. But for millions of children in Sub-Saharan Africa, the return to school can be a time of anxiety, missed learning, and falling behind – simply because they can’t see clearly.
This summer, Vision Action is launching our #BackToSchool Appeal, supporting children in Ethiopia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Zambia to access life-changing eye care. With clear vision, they can return to the classroom prepared to learn, achieve, and build a better future.

Why Vision Matters for Education
Good vision is not a luxury. It’s the foundation for learning, confidence, and participation in school. Without it, children struggle to read the board, follow lessons, or complete their work – leading many to drop out entirely.
Our school eye health programmes offer:
