Making a difference in the lives of future leaders

Sandra is an optician at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, who typically assists the optometrist with field refractions for pupils.

During the field refraction, Sandra assists the optometrist in conducting visual acuity tests and facilitates the students in selecting their frames. Sandra is extremely interested in supporting PEC activities, such as eye screenings for her clients.

She conducts near-vision evaluations and educates patients on eye health. She loves children and considers assisting youth to be a vocation and not a job.

She says that her participation in school screening and onsite refraction has helped her understand some of the obstacles they face in schools and communities. She considers assisting youth to be a vocation, not a job.

When asked how she feels about her participation in school eye health, Sandra said,
“I am very happy to be part of this success story of helping children improve their sight which helps to improve their learning outcomes.

“I see this work as giving me an opportunity to touch the lives of these young children whom I love to work with. As a Christian, I don’t see my work with children as a mere job; it is my calling to help them and I will gladly do it anytime, anywhere for anyone.”
