Coopervision

CooperVision is a global leader in the contact lens industry, dedicated to helping improve the way people see each day. CooperVision continues to build upon the most complete portfolio of contact lens products available to address all types of vision challenges.

In partnership with Optometry Giving Sight (US) and Vision Aid Overseas, CooperVision has helped to create real change in Ghana, through the sale of its Bioinfinity© contact lens.

Approximately 301,000 people in Ghana have a visual impairment and the lead cause of this is refractive error (44.4%). Few public hospitals offer refractions in Ghana and the result is almost all Ghanaians who require glasses (95%) do not have access to them.

Ghana Health Service has stated that a national program is needed to decrease the eye health burden in Ghana, and CooperVision’s support has helped to provide eye health services in two districts in the Upper East Region: Bawku West District and the Kassena Nankana Municipality.

Thanks to this programme, 16,000 children and adults will be screened in Ghana:

  • An estimated 1,280 children and adults will receive medication for common eye diseases
  • An estimated 1,600 children and adults will be referred for other treatments
  • An estimated 272 children and adults will receive prescription glasses for distance vision correction
  • An estimated 800 adults will receive reading glasses
